Meet America’s Peanut Butter Farmers

We love supporting local farmers, that’s no secret. Even more so, we love to share experiences that connect you to your food. There is nothing like touring a farm and watching every carefully curated step in growing America’s food supply. Since (realistically) we can’t take each of you on actual farm tours (as much as we’d like to), we decided to bring the tour to you virtually.

Recently, in celebration of National Peanut Month, we invited the Southern Peanut Growers to share the lives of some family farmers that grow the peanuts for America’s peanut butter. They shared farm stories and practices, peanut butter facts and even some cherished family recipes.

So without further ado, we’re re-sharing their posts here. These are the faces and stories of the farmers in Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi who grow proud to grow the peanuts for your peanut butter.

Hey y’all, Southern Peanut Growers here! We’re the farmers in GA, AL, FL and MS who are proud to grow the peanuts for your PEANUT BUTTER. Get your peanuts here! No, not the ballpark kind. We’re partial to the runner peanuts pictured here. They’re grown primarily in Southeastern U.S., and they’re the variety of peanut that’s used to make peanut butter. That’s because they have the strongest peanut flavor, and they’re uniform in size. This helps them roast evenly before they’re ground into our favorite spread.


From the farm to your table, peanut butter is grown and made entirely in the USA. Meet Georgia’s own, Casey Cox! A sixth-generation farmer, Casey is carrying her family’s peanut heritage forward on their 3,400 acres of land.


Straight from the peanut (butter) farmer’s kitchen to yours, here’s a picture of Casey Cox’s dreamy peanut butter pie!


Spring is here! Let the peanut planting begin! Peanut farmers start planting peanut kernels after the last frost in April. These family farms spend about 120 to 160 days tending their peanut fields before harvesting the crop in September thru October.


Did you know? Just one acre of peanuts will make 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches! Lucky for all the peanut butter lovers out there: 5,500 family farms in the Southeast grow more than 1.15 million acres of peanuts each year! Wow!


Thanks to peanut farmers like Thomas Adams, peanut butter fans can enjoy peanut butter all year long. Growing peanuts is a family tradition on Thomas’ Alabama farm, and today his family grows 800 acres each of peanuts and cotton. As a third-generation farmer, he couldn’t imagine growing anything else.


Double the peanut butter, double the fun! Alabama farmer Thomas Adams knows how to do dessert right! Try his peanut butter squares for yourself at home!


Morning, noon and night, there’s never a time when we’re not in the mood for a spoonful of peanut butter. This protein-packed spread is a healthy way to keep hunger at bay all day long!


Did you know? Americans eat THREE pounds of peanut butter per person per year! That’s a whole lot of peanuts for America’s peanut butter farmers to grow! Not to worry, because Mississippi’s B. Jones is up to the challenge. He plants and harvests about 600 acres of peanuts on his family’s 3,800 acre farm every year.

Not only does Mississippi farmer B. Jones provide us with delicious peanut butter, but he also gave us this tasty Shrimp Pad Thai recipe that’s a must-try!
