Next Thursday, for one night only, Jackson chef Karl Gorline, Chef de Cuisine at BRAVO! Italian Restaurant & Bar, will take over the kitchen at popular Hattiesburg brewpub, Keg & Barrel to flex his pub food creativity. Chef Karl will be assisted in the kitchen Ryan Bell, sous chef at Sophia’s at The Fairview Inn in Jackson along with John Neal and his team at the Keg & Barrel.
Using amazing Simmons Catfish as his inspiration, Chef Karl has created FOUR amazing small plates of perfect pub food to share with you at this special pop-up event. Each dish will be paired with a Mississippi beer, such that you’ll get to sample a food and beer pairing featuring each of the four Mississippi breweries including Jackson-based Lucky Town Brewing Company, Hattiesburg-based Southern Prohibition Brewing, Ocean Springs-based Crooked Letter Brewing Co. and Mississippi’s first brewery, Kiln-based Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company.
Best of all, each plate will come with a ballot where guests can vote for their favorite of the four plates – and a chance for their favorite to join the regular menu at Keg & Barrel! We don’t know whether it’ll be your favorite or not, but we heard that Chef Karl will DEFINITELY be serving up a Catfish Corn Dog served with homemade Mango Ketchup. That plus three other tasty dishes are sure to leave your head spinning in bar food bliss.
Special Guest Katy Simmons Prosser will be on hand to greet guests and share information about Simmons Catfish, a company her father started. She’s also promised to bring a few fun giveaways and some Simmons Catfish cookbooks for guests to take home. Eat Y’all will also be on hand to toast the tasty chef creations – and perhaps give away a few door prizes of our own!
This event is open to the public and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The regular Keg & Barrel menu and bar selection will also be available. The special Simmons Catfish & Mississippi Beer Tasting Flight will be available from 5 – 9 p.m. while supplies last. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste innovative bar bites from one of Mississippi’s brightest young chefs – and to vote for your favorite to stick around Hattiesburg for more than a one night stand.
The Keg & Barrel is located at 1315 Hardy Street in Hattiesburg, MS.
